The purpose of this event is to recruit current high school seniors who are considering attending URI next year by answering their questions and explaining how the engineering curricula at URI work. If you can spare an hour or two of your time Friday (you don't have to stay the whole time) talking to prospective students (and their parents) about URI undergraduate degree programs, campus activities, dorm life, dining hall food, etc., it would be very helpful and appreciated. Faculty from each program will also be there to answer admission and curricular questions. More information is given in the forwarded email below. If you've been considering applying for graduate school, and would like to find out more about the pros and cons of this accelerated MS degree program versus the traditional 2 year MS program, please mark your calendars to attend the: Information Session on 5 year BS+MS program for Biomedical, Electrical or Computer Engineers Given by: Profs. Fischer and Boudreaux-Bartels Kelley Hall, room 102 5:15 - 6 pm Free pizza and soda will be provided The ECBE Department Graduate Program Director and the Chairperson will be there to give a quick overview of the program, its entrance requirements, and answer any questions that you may have. Essentially, the way the fast track works is that students can opt to get a head start on the graduate application process and required MS coursework by taking during their senior year an extra 1-2 graduate courses that will count towards satisfying their MS degree requirements. Because of the additional course load during the senior year, only top students (GPA > 3.3 at end of Junior year) are eligible. As before, there are two MS degree options: non-thesis vs thesis Master's (aka Professional vs Research Master's). * In the non-thesis MS option, after students graduate with their BS degree in May, they then complete the remaining graduate coursework, significant project and exam requirements during subsequent summer, Fall and Spring semesters. * In the thesis MS option, students should also identify a research project and Major Professor during the senior year. Graduate coursework and research work will be taken during summer, Fall and Spring following completion of BS degree. Due to the unpredictable nature of research, the thesis MS will most likely require a second summer semester to complete. The attached spreadsheet illustrates how the 5 hr BS+MS program might work for Electrical Engineering majors (class of 2012); yellow highlighted text indicates graduate coursework for MS degree. If you plan to attend the Information session on Dec. 7, please RSVP by Dec. 4th to leach at egr.uri.edu so we'll know how much food to order. regards, Prof. BB From boud at ele.uri.edu Fri Nov 20 14:16:34 2009 From: boud at ele.uri.edu (G.
